BayBlog of the week

Even though it  will need a lot of trials to get it from bench to bedside, Britain is all headed to take the lead and is visualizing itself as the world leader in the stem cell research in times to come and sees California as a strategic partner in the Biotechnology Industry. California has given a strong boost to stem cell research.

Despite UKs efforts to boost the stem cell research,  Scientists realize that any potential cures from embryonic stem cell research are years away if they occur. Potential for embryonic stem cell research to cure diseases has been exaggerated. Professor Colin McGuckin, a specialist in regenerative medicine at the UK’s Newcastle University feels that stem cell research to cure diseases is going to be a slow process.

In contrast to UK’s efforts and California’s boost, in US the future of Stem Cell Research is still on stake as President Bush describes his decision for vetoing the legislation as ‘moral rather than scientific’, an act of conscience opposed to the taking of the “innocent human life” represented by embryonic stem cells.

In a nutshell we still  need to wait and watch direction of  Stem Cell Research in coming years and the challenges we have ahead of us!!
